Review: Brekky @ Brasserie Bread Cafe

Whenever I am in town prior to heading to work, I make the effort to got to the Brasserie Bread Café – they open at 7am, and I am able to stock up on some good bread and have a nice breakfast.

This time, I got the berry buttermilk pancakes, because I had been dreaming about them. I have had them at least twice before. Another favourite is the soft boiled eggs with toast soldiers, and the almond croissants – made with real almond meal rather than almond essence, and remaining crunchy throughout a days worth of snacking.

Unfortunately this time – what a disappointment! It was like they had deep fried them.

I have to hunt through my archives now to see if I took a picture of when I last had them, because I am pretty sure that they weren’t like that.

Surprisingly, despite the fact that I like some deep fried crispy things (like soft shell crab and a good churros), I really did not like these pancakes. I stocked up on some bread though (sour cherry, walnut and fig, sourdough wholemeal), and took note of what to order next time – a whole table of six got it – poached egg with smoked trout, parsley and fetta salad on toast. Looked delicious!!
